About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Teach classes in the appropriate instructional area
  • Participate in annual student and chair/coordinator evaluations
  • Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, assessments, and established processes
  • Attend classes regularly and return college reports, credentials, and requested documentation in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively with appropriate staff and the department chair
  • Comply with legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA and ADA
  • Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials
  • Further the mission, goals, and core values of Joliet Junior College
  • Meet contractual obligations under the adjunct faculty contract
  • Work with full-time faculty in assessing students and following course guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s Degree in Geography, or closely related field, with at least 18 graduate level credit hours within Physical Geography or Meteorology
  • Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality
  • Willingness to teach at other campus sites is required
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level preferred
  • Experience at the community college level preferred
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds preferred
  • Experience teaching online and/or using course management programs preferred
  • Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service preferred
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency preferred
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence preferred
