About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Take over finance work from the fractional CFO, outsourced accounting firm, and Chief of Staff
  • Own accounting, monthly close, order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, revenue recognition, commissions, and forecasting
  • Build the finance team, beginning with the first accountant hire
  • Lead the build of usage billing on Stripe through the first invoice
  • Use usage and margin data to improve pricing
  • Own the general ledger in QuickBooks and US GAAP accrual close
  • Deliver monthly financial statements by business day 10
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, payment processor, and balance sheet accounts
  • Post accrual, prepaid, deferred revenue, depreciation, revenue, and commission entries
  • Prepare for financial audit or investor due diligence
  • Issue customer invoices and reconcile product credit usage with credits sold and balances
  • Own collections, accounts receivable aging, overdue-account escalation, and US SaaS sales tax
  • Prepare ASC 606 revenue schedules and ASC 340-40 commission capitalization schedules
  • Calculate sales commissions and resolve disputes with sales
  • Process vendor bills, collect W-9s, issue 1099s, and manage vendor contracts and renewals
  • Review SaaS, infrastructure, AI model, and cloud costs
  • Own the operating model, forecasting, budget-versus-actual analysis, and cash runway modeling
  • Analyze usage, margin, and adoption data to recommend pricing and packaging changes
  • Track ARR, usage revenue, net revenue retention, gross margin, burn, runway, and CAC payback
  • Own management reporting, board finance reporting, and investor reporting
  • Lead Stripe Billing and Stripe Tax implementation with product and engineering
  • Connect CRM, billing, and QuickBooks systems
  • Write finance policies for approvals, expenses, revenue, and commissions
  • Hire and manage the first accountant and plan future finance staffing
  • Manage US tax, audit, valuation, and India CA partners
  • Own India entity finance, including GST, TDS, payroll, ROC filings, statutory audit, and transfer pricing
  • Support fundraising through data room preparation, financial modeling, and diligence responses

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 9+ years in finance, including at least 4 years at a B2B SaaS company and time as the senior finance person
  • Direct experience with subscription or platform fees plus usage-based billing, including prepaid credits, usage billing, overage billing, and billing setup design
  • Revenue recognition under ASC 606 for subscription and usage revenue
  • Order-to-cash and accounts payable for US customers and US vendors
  • Experience building and owning forecast models
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • QuickBooks Online experience
  • Clear written English for US customers and executives
  • 3–4 hours of overlap with US Pacific or Eastern time each working day
  • Experience owning a US GAAP monthly close
  • Experience building or rebuilding finance processes at a startup with no existing finance team
  • Experience hiring and managing at least one accountant
