About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the technical roadmap and operational strategy for the Kubernetes platform
  • Ensure cluster reliability, scalability, and security across production and non-production environments
  • Lead a team of container platform engineers
  • Hire, manage performance, and develop team members
  • Drive cluster lifecycle management, including upgrades, node provisioning, capacity planning, and workload migration
  • Coach engineers on Kubernetes best practices, container security, RBAC design, and operational excellence
  • Collaborate with software engineering, security, and infrastructure teams
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices
  • Design and enforce Kubernetes observability standards for metrics, alerting, and dashboards
  • Oversee on-call practices, incident response, and blameless post-mortems
  • Align the Kubernetes platform roadmap with infrastructure and product engineering goals
  • Partner with security teams on cluster hardening, network policy enforcement, and compliance requirements
  • Maintain the reliability, scalability, and security of KAYAK's container orchestration platform at global scale

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or platform/infrastructure engineering
  • At least 3 years in an engineering leadership or management role
  • Proven track record operating large-scale, 24/7 production Kubernetes environments
  • Experience with Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, including upgrades, node provisioning, and capacity planning
  • Experience migrating workloads from legacy container orchestration platforms
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, including RBAC design, network policy, cluster hardening, and multi-environment operations
  • Strong technical foundation in on-premise and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with GCP and/or AWS
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana, including alerting, dashboarding, and incident-driven tuning
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate a clear technical vision
  • Ability to work from the required Concord office at least 3 days per week
  • Legal eligibility to work within the region/country this job is based
