About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Teach private cello lessons in person at the Union campus and possibly assist with Chamber Music and Orchestra
  • Teach private violin lessons in person at the Union campus and possibly assist with Chamber Music and Orchestra
  • Teach Music Specialist classes, lessons or ensembles at the Jersey City campus, including music theory, sight singing and ear training, music history, private studio lessons, music in general education and small ensembles
  • Lead the Opera Workshop program weekly on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Kean Union campus
  • Provide required availability outside the classroom for students during each semester or session
  • Schedule availability around student needs
  • Potentially teach online classes for Kean Global
  • Work at assigned New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites based on operational and university needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in a related field required
  • Teaching experience required unless otherwise indicated
  • Candidates with an ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D. or other acceptable disciplinary doctorate are encouraged to apply
  • Proficiency in a Learning Management System required
  • Cello Studio: expertise in cello pedagogy and experience in high-school level recruitment and outreach required
  • Violin Studio: expertise in violin pedagogy and experience in high-school level recruitment and outreach required
  • Music Specialist: prior experience in higher education and an active performance or related professional music career preferred
  • Submit a cover letter indicating availability for days, evenings or weekends and preferred campus location
  • Submit a resume and contact information for three professional references
  • Official transcripts required before appointment
  • Newly hired employees must establish a principal residence in New Jersey within 365 days, as required by the New Jersey First Act
