Key responsibilities & impact
  • Load and unload furnaces
  • Monitor computerized controls for temperatures, pressures, chemical flow rates, and gas flow rates
  • Perform and document furnace operations
  • Conduct vacuum leak checks and periodic preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshoot furnace problems
  • Rebuild or replace furnace components as needed
  • Ensure adequate gas and chemical levels according to procedures
  • Replace tanks as needed
  • Set up and separate product
  • Enter quality data by furnace and heat results
  • Monitor graph results
  • Act as Emergency Responder within the Coating Department
  • Follow safety procedures and inspection control plans
  • Ensure products are processed according to routings, specifications, quantities, and styles
  • Work to meet daily departmental production goals
  • Communicate safety, quality, and product issues with supervisors, team members, and across shifts
  • Interpret available data to report and correct furnace problems
  • Notify the supervisor of deviations from operating procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Understand oral and written procedures and instructions
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Able to use a 30X scope
  • Ability to use a personal computer and software such as SAP MII
  • Ability to locate information in QMS and the Kennametal Intranet for procedures and work instructions
  • Able to handle inserts with fingers without chipping
  • Effective communication with supervisors and co-workers
  • Mechanical skills to rebuild and replace furnace components
  • Able to read and understand operating procedures, defect criteria and routing information
  • Knowledge and ability to perform necessary actions in emergency situations, such as gas leaks
  • Employees are required to become Hazmat trained
  • Safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes required
  • Must pass a Respirator Medical Evaluation
  • Must participate on the Plant Emergency SCBA response team
  • Must obtain clearance from the Department of Homeland Security to work in the CVD department
  • Self-contained breathing apparatus required for specific tasks
  • Frequent standing and 8+ hours per 12-hour period of intermittent walking
  • Ability to climb a three-foot step stool and stretch in awkward positions
  • Normal strength to assemble and disassemble furnace sections
  • Ability to lift an average of 20 pounds, with some reaching up to but not more than 33 pounds
  • Proficiency reached through on-the-job training in twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months
