About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead overall operations of server and virtual environments by monitoring resources and implementing changes or repairs
  • Serve as IT Project Team Lead for server/system initiatives and the System Administrator team
  • Act as subject matter expert and functional lead in system administration
  • Support the VPIT in achieving objectives and maintaining service levels
  • Delegate tasks and provide mentorship and training
  • Establish system specifications by analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements
  • Design and maintain systems administration, including interface configuration
  • Establish and maintain server and virtual systems
  • Evaluate system performance, including availability, utilization, and throughput
  • Plan and execute equipment selection, installation, configuration, and testing
  • Manage system security and administer user access
  • Maintain email applications and configure internal systems
  • Drive deployment of new applications and systems
  • Monitor Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file security, and accessibility
  • Oversee data backups, integrity, completion, and disaster recovery operations
  • Troubleshoot physical and virtual systems and basic network connectivity
  • Provide user support and fulfill help desk functions as needed
  • Develop, analyze, and provide reports and queries
  • Keep the VPIT apprised of workflow, status, and challenges
  • Uphold operational and security SOPs
  • Collaborate with the VPIT on budgetary items and strategic systems planning
  • Maintain technical system documentation and assist with SOPs
  • Complete special projects as assigned
  • Report to the Vice President of Information Technology (VPIT)

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar major preferred; high school diploma (or equivalent) with an appropriate combination of education and related IT work experience required
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive, relevant experience administering systems, applications, and servers
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office, Adobe, web applications, and custom systems as a user and administrator
  • Applicable knowledge of one or more scripting languages
  • Solid understanding of LAN/WAN networks and system security techniques
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in training, delegating tasks, and mentoring team members
  • Ability to organize and manage workload and work a flexible schedule, including on-call rotation after hours and weekends
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to periodically travel to satellite locations
  • Proof of education/certifications required during the interview process
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to carry out basic clerical duties for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally bend or reach
  • Ability to safely ascend/descend a ladder
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure
