About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coordinate the Controls Engineering scope across complex customer projects.
- Define Controls Engineering execution strategy, resource requirements, engineering milestones and project readiness activities.
- Support sales and project handover through technical input, estimation, scheduling, solution review and capability identification.
- Develop and maintain Controls Engineering design and commissioning programmes.
- Act as the primary Controls Engineering point of contact for project, site, procurement, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, consultant and customer stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership through task allocation, prioritisation, technical decision-making, reporting, risk management and escalation.
- Own and coordinate Functional Design Specifications, Descriptions of Operation, Bills of Materials, procurement plans, installation documentation, customer deliverables and technical documentation.
- Ensure quality gates, design risk assessments, safety design validation and site-readiness requirements are completed.
- Transfer Controls Engineering deliverables and technical information to customers for installation, commissioning and customer service training.
- Maintain status reporting, resource plans, schedule updates, financial forecasts and cost control.
- Coordinate interfaces between Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Structures and Installation.
- Conduct on-site safety audits during customer-site visits.
- Drive continuous improvement, technical standardization, process optimisation and scalable engineering solutions.
- Mentor Controls Engineers and Lead Engineers and promote technical excellence, accountability, innovation and continuous learning.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Educated to degree level (bachelor’s degree or higher) in technical Engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in an industrial automation environment, with strong experience leading engineering teams on complex customer projects.
- Strong Controls Engineering expertise, with the ability to challenge designs, validate concepts, make sound technical decisions and maintain engineering quality under delivery pressure.
- High-level expertise in Material Control Systems (MCS).
- Previous experience as a Controls Lead, Area Lead or equivalent on at least one Amazon project.
- Strong understanding of Amazon Controls standards and design expectations.
- Good understanding of technical manuals, drawings, design requirements and relevant ISO standards within automated warehouse, intralogistics or material handling environments.
- Understanding of the Machinery Directive and relevant harmonised standards.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using project management tools such as MS Project, JIRA or similar.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to proactively identify risks, develop mitigation plans and escalate issues early.
- Ability to work effectively under delivery pressure, compressed timelines and changing project scope while maintaining engineering quality, cost control and clear communication.
- Strong mentoring and technical leadership skills.
- Full working proficiency in English.
