About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Execute corporate packaging initiatives focused on cost reduction, operational enhancements, process improvements, and seasonal promotional packaging
  • Oversee packaging commercialization for new product development and sustainability initiatives within assigned product categories
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate with suppliers on packaging-related issues
  • Conduct engineering analyses to define packaging design requirements, assess material suitability, and evaluate process feasibility
  • Develop and deliver detailed packaging project presentations to cross-functional leadership
  • Lead assigned packaging projects from initiation through completion and conduct post-project evaluations
  • Design, prototype, and validate retail packaging components, including clamshells, trapped blisters, folding cartons, injection-molded hang tags, printed polybags, and header cards
  • Collaborate with engineering, product management, operations, and procurement to optimize packaging solutions
  • Support promotional and point-of-purchase displays by coordinating packaging design with marketing and branding requirements
  • Partner with domestic and international suppliers to develop and maintain packaging specifications
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking for packaging trends and opportunities in performance, sustainability, and customer experience
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives in packaging materials, processes, transportation, and storage
  • Recommend workflow improvements to enhance packaging efficiency and scalability
  • Lead resolution of packaging design, testing, and quality issues, including hands-on troubleshooting
  • Prepare technical documentation, including packaging drawings, material specifications, handling/shipping instructions, and inspection criteria
  • Draft and present technical reports summarizing analyses and findings
  • Mentor and support junior packaging engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering and five (5) years of related experience are required
  • Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and principles
  • General understanding of various material properties
  • Experience with palletization optimization software (e.g., TOPS, CAPE) is a plus
  • Experience with CAD (ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks) is a plus
  • Strong technical, analytical, planning, and organizational skills
  • Capability to facilitate projects and solutions
  • Oral and written communication within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize projects and departmental goals to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities under tight time constraints
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally as needed
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds; no one should lift over 50 pounds independently
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
