Civil Construction Superintendent

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to the success of the safety program
- Direct field operations in the delivery of projects by adhering to schedules, budgets, safety, and risk
- Ensure material receiving reports are completed in a timely manner after deliveries
- Manage field employees by providing guidance and leadership on construction activities and developing communication between field and project staff
- Develop and execute project work plans to keep projects on track and on budget
- Provide senior-level presence in the field, coach field staff on issue resolution, review site labour requirements, mentor field staff, and perform succession planning
- Work directly with PMs to identify changes in work
- Organize and manage trucking and subcontractors on site
- Interface with the client and other contractors on site
- Perform quality control duties regarding work being performed
- Communicate with the project team regarding Site Instructions, Requests for Information, and Material Submittals
- Ensure subcontractors execute and comply with their contracted scope of work
- Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions and/or authorities
- Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards
- Identify construction-progress conflicts and communicate them to the project team for resolution
- Maintain a written daily log of jobsite activities
- Ensure subcontractors correct deficiencies identified by the project team
- Walk all project areas daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning
- Preside over weekly subcontractor coordination meetings
- Issue notices of non-compliance to subcontractors regarding quality or scheduling
- Keep the job site clean and organized
- Perform job progress and completion punch-list identification and completion
- Maintain complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract across all divisions of work
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to read and interpret civil and foundation drawings
- In-depth knowledge of civil construction procedures, equipment and OH&S guidelines
- 5+ years’ experience in civil construction with emphasis on all underground Municipal Infrastructure, including Water, Sanitary, Storm mainline and servicing re and re
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and supervisory skills
- Positive attitude and works well with others
- Professional demeanour when dealing with the public, crew, and clients
- Able to work outside in all-weather at all times of the year
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds or more
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to read and understand specifications
- Recent working experience in similar role
- First aid training
