About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate referred accounts to confirm they fall under Workers’ Compensation guidelines for the various states handled
- Review account information to identify the responsible payer
- Ensure bills and records are received by the payer within allowed timelines
- Confirm payments are correct
- Submit appeals for unpaid or underpaid bills to collect correct payment
- Manage an inventory of accounts from multiple clients, including new, priority, aged, and high-dollar accounts
- Coordinate substantive account reviews by coding and utilization departments
- Prepare and submit appeals with required documentation in a timely manner
- Identify and resolve issues causing delays or non-payment of bills
- Maintain clear, concise, and comprehensive professional notation throughout account resolution
- Maintain professional relationships and communication with patients, employers, and payer representatives
- Learn and implement client-specific protocols and procedures
- Document and resolve accounts using web portals, client systems, and databases
- Identify payer resolution trends and relay them to peers
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED
- 1 to 3 years of experience handling Workers’ Compensation bills
- Proven results in collecting on hospital claims from insurance companies
- Experience reviewing EOBs and appealing underpayments
- Valid government-issued photo ID required during screening and/or interviews
- Dedicated, distraction-free work space at home
- Proficiency with web portals, client systems, and databases
- Ability to learn and implement client-specific protocols and procedures
- Ability to maintain professional relationships and communication with patients, employers, and payer representatives
