About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead Koalafi’s entire engineering organization, including Consumer and Merchant Experience, Core Engineering, Application Experience, Data & AI Platform, and Architecture
Partner with the Chief Product and Technology Officer and Head of Product to set engineering direction and translate company priorities into execution
Own engineering strategy, investment priorities, execution plans, delivery risk response, and corrective action
Build partnerships across Product, Risk, Operations, Finance, Sales, IT, Information Security, and other functions
Connect technical choices to growth, customer experience, operating efficiency, and risk
Guide applications, core services, data platforms, architecture, modernization, reliability, and scale
Lead, coach, and hold accountable engineering leaders and managers
Drive succession planning, leadership development, hiring, performance management, and organizational design
Strengthen quality, test automation, delivery practices, observability, and operational readiness
Own engineering budget and capacity planning with the CPTO and Finance
Build and operate secure, resilient systems with IT and Information Security
Build, prototype, and experiment with AI tools to improve software development and operations
Lead generative AI and automation adoption across the broader company
Turn AI pilots into repeatable practices with measurable improvements in speed, quality, capacity, and business outcomes

Requirements

What you’ll need

15+ years of progressive engineering experience
Substantial experience leading managers and senior engineering leaders across multiple teams
Experience owning organization-wide strategy, delivery, talent, and investment decisions
Strong architectural judgment across complex applications, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms
Ability to assess technical tradeoffs and difficult technical decisions
Understanding of how engineering decisions affect revenue, cost, customer experience, and risk
Track record of building inclusive, high-performing organizations and developing managers into stronger leaders
Experience personally building, redesigning workflows, or running experiments using AI tools
Ability to balance modernization with delivery, speed with reliability, and ambition with available capacity
Preferred: experience in fintech, payments, lending, or other regulated, transaction-intensive environments
Preferred: familiarity with Go, Node.js, React, AWS, Kubernetes, and native iOS and Android development
Preferred: fluency in the modern AI stack, including frontier models, coding agents, harnesses, evaluations, and guardrails
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
