About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Review proposals, specifications, and drawings; attend pre-bid meetings and perform project site visits to determine scope and estimate requirements
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and determine least-cost construction means and methods
Complete and self-review full cost estimates for assigned work items
Review estimated cost items against historical cost data
Evaluate construction means-and-methods options and incorporate least-cost/best-value solutions
Coordinate with estimators and operations managers to ensure complete, responsive estimates
Collaborate with clients, design partners, vendors, and project stakeholders on cost-effective solutions
Analyze geotechnical reports and subcontractor/supplier quotes
Prepare CPM schedules, bid documents, and pricing forms
Monitor addenda and advise the estimating team of changes
Compose, track, and manage client clarification correspondence
Track job-cost data on awarded contracts against bid budgets
Support project operations on extra-work change orders
Maintain estimating cost models, takeoff templates, records, and working documents
Develop technical skills through industry events and stay current on equipment, crew sizing, means, methods, and construction processes
Build and maintain relationships with industry partners
Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
5 years related experience if not degreed in a related field of study preferred
Preferred minimum 3 years of estimating experience on heavy civil projects, including Bridge, Highway, Utility, or Rail infrastructure
Prior experience in estimating/engineering roles on public and private construction projects preferred
Leadership, effective communication, and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to estimate multiple projects simultaneously with proven time management skills
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
Strong work ethic to complete tasks accurately and on time
Solid attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Knowledge of State DOTs preferred
Strong proficiency in Primavera P6, Excel, Word, and Bluebeam preferred
Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software preferred
