About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Train and support the development of heavy equipment operators for safety, productivity, and quality in the field
- Train new operators to develop and improve equipment operation skills
- Keep experienced operators’ equipment operating skills and training up-to-date
- Develop working relationships with operators, mechanics, superintendents, and management
- Provide management recommendations regarding operator placement
- Inspect equipment for proper maintenance and safety procedures
- Ensure operators understand proper equipment processes and report deficiencies or concerns
- Monitor equipment to ensure operation within rated capacities
- Maintain relationships with Local Unions, trade schools, and the skilled craft community to recruit qualified operator candidates
- Communicate needed repairs for timely completion
- Spend approximately 80% of time observing and mentoring operators and 20% working with management, office associates, educators, and vendors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum high school diploma
- At least five years’ experience as an operator in construction industry
- A member in good standing of the Operating Engineers Union
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Basic computer skills
- Skilled in dirt moving equipment and techniques
- Knowledgeable in both MSHA and OSHA regulations and guidelines
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
