About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, direct, and coordinate civil industrial and large-scale utility project activities
- Ensure project goals are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters
- Analyze and understand plans and specifications
- Follow procedures in the Project Administration Manual
- Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and conformance with engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards
- Produce accurate CPM schedules
- Supervise and coordinate submittals and working drawings
- Prepare or direct preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, environmental impact studies, and project designs
- Provide contract interpretation and clarification
- Maintain and update project schedules, including monthly schedules and weekly two-week look-ahead reviews
- Maintain, verify, and report cost and income quantities
- Review, approve, and submit progress billings
- Monitor job costs and production budgets and work with the Superintendent to control them
- Prepare and submit monthly cost, income, and cash flow projections
- Approve subcontractor requisitions and vendor invoices
- Coordinate, price, and assist the Project Manager with change orders and claims
- Resolve issues proactively and manage multiple tasks
- Organize project correspondence and filing systems
- Maintain subcontractor insurance certificate compliance
- Maintain compliance with underground utility notifications and locations
- Promote and participate in two-week and long-range planning with the job team
- Apply and enforce safety policy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university
- 2+ years of experience in related field
- Field experience inspecting construction sites
- Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs
- Proficiency with CPM scheduling programs such as Primavera Project Planner
- Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office software
- Understanding of and experience using cost and productivity data
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Knowledge of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply fractions and percentages to practical situations
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
- Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
