About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for pipeline maintenance, rehabilitation, and integrity management projects
- Coordinate the total estimating effort for assigned bids and projects
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and pre-bid meeting requirements to determine scope and estimate contents
- Prepare project bid schedules in Oracle Primavera P6
- Review historical productivity data and incorporate it into unit and man-hour figures
- Set up and enter bid items, crews, production rates, materials, and subcontractor pricing in HCSS Heavy Bid
- Consult with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to formulate estimates and resolve issues
- Collaborate with company teams, owners, and subcontractors to reach consensus on proposed bids
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, constructability issues, and project risks
- Review subcontractor work scopes and applicable construction regulations
- Conduct bid reviews with Operations and final estimate reviews with Upper Management
- Monitor client changes and communicate scope changes during the estimate period
- Prepare handoff materials for Operations
- Organize bids and upload phase codes, costs, and bid items into Viewpoint as the original budget
- Follow awarded contracts, including estimating extra work, change orders, and credits
- Maintain supporting estimate documents and current supplier/subcontractor pricing
- Evaluate construction means and methods and determine project cost effectiveness
- Prepare bids, select vendors/subcontractors, and support winning new work
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators and support staff
- Lead or participate in internal estimating reviews and risk assessment meetings
- Promote collaboration, accuracy, and integrity throughout the estimating process
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3–5 years of estimating experience for pipeline or facility projects related to natural gas infrastructure, or heavy civil projects
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to estimate multiple projects simultaneously
- Proven time management skills
- Ability to work independently or as a team member
- Strong work ethic and ability to complete tasks in a high-quality manner
- Self-starter able to perform independently for extended periods
- Solid attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HCSS preferred
- Some travel and long hours may be required
- Ability to walk long distances on rights-of-way and up and down steep slopes for some bid meetings
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management preferred
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software preferred
- Experience with Autodesk and Workday preferred
