About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Work directly with clients to understand their operations and needs
Build and own client relationships
Lead discovery sessions and client conversations
Investigate workflows, systems, and data to turn unclear problems into buildable solutions
Develop options, explain trade-offs, and establish practical paths forward
Configure Kraken’s existing platform capabilities where appropriate
Design, implement, test, and release production software where needed
Use agents in investigation, development, and testing while remaining accountable for shipped work
Triage and fix issues
Support adoption and verify solutions address the original client problem
Partner with client engineering, delivery, and product teams
Determine whether problems require existing capabilities, targeted changes, or product roadmap work
Identify reusable solutions and help extend them to other clients
Work across evolving workstreams and remain accountable for working outcomes

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong software engineering experience delivering and maintaining production software
Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases, review changes, and make sound technical decisions
Demonstrated client-facing experience, including leading discovery or solution discussions
Ability to explain technical choices to engineering and non-technical audiences
Practical problem-solving ability with messy operational problems and incomplete specifications
Ability to use coding agents and AI-enabled tools effectively while applying engineering judgment
Ownership and follow-through through to a working result
Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-paced environment
Collaborative engineering mindset
Patience and ability to explain complex things simply
Right to work in the country of application; no visa sponsorship available
Bonus: experience in energy, utilities, billing, or switching in regulated markets
Bonus: incident response or on-call experience for production systems
Bonus: prior forward deployed engineer or customer-facing engineering experience
