About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide environmental support to ongoing civil construction projects
  • Monitor construction and ensure compliance with permits and regulations
  • Monitor compliance with Construction Rock Handling, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans, Multi-Sector General Permits, Cultural Resources Protection and Monitoring Plans, and Nesting Bird Standard Operating Procedures
  • Document compliance with plans, policies, procedures, and permit requirements
  • Complete inspections, monitor data sheets, and complete reporting forms
  • Coordinate between the construction manager and construction teams
  • Facilitate communication and quickly resolve environmental conflicts, issues, and challenges arising in the field
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Work frequently outside at construction/project sites and occasionally inside in a standard office setting
  • Travel to remote areas and field sites as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, chemistry, natural resource management, or related field
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in construction environmental monitoring and management, preferably in mining or road construction
  • Practical experience in erosion prevention and sediment control for construction projects
  • Experience with turbidity monitoring and sampling
  • AK-CESCL certification/credentials desired
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory, legal, and other requirements
  • Working knowledge of arctic wildlife and vegetation management
  • Experience working under US and State of Alaska environmental statutes/regulations/permits
  • Strong technical skills and practical problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively across all levels of the business
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the company vehicle insurance policy
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in moderate to harsh weather conditions
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to travel 100 percent of the time during field season and be away on field trips for multiple days
  • Ability to travel to remote areas using alternative transportation, including snow machines, boats, small airplanes, helicopters, and ATVs
  • Valid identification required for travel through TSA security checkpoints
