About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead all aspects of material procurement and strategic execution for the metal fabrication category
- Lead site procurement metrics and forward-looking procurement approaches and proposals for Maritime Sector programs
- Provide strategic support for procurement activities, long-term planning, compliance, negotiations, savings, supply chain metrics, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with functional teams in a matrixed organization and report to the Director of Maritime Procurement
- Develop the procurement team through staffing, training, talent management, succession planning, and organizational development
- Facilitate supplier development and drive procurement and expediting performance for cost and schedule results
- Identify strategic suppliers and subcontractors and proactively meet cost, schedule, and technical performance needs
- Manage procurement processes and systems in compliance with government, corporate, division, site, and prime contract requirements
- Execute performance-improvement initiatives based on industry best practices
- Select, motivate, and lead a strong team
- Support strategic new-business pursuits as a subject matter expert for purchased and subcontracted systems and services
- Deploy risk-management strategies for critical procurement efforts
- Manage procurement metrics and supplier performance objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
- 10–12 or more years of experience in purchasing in an MRP (ERP)-driven manufacturing environment
- SAP and CostPoint preferred
- Proven negotiation experience
- Contract experience, including knowledge of terms and conditions and other agreement-related experience
- Understanding and working knowledge of engineering documentation and product configuration
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a digital/remote environment
- Solid knowledge of defense supply chain and purchasing processes (FAR/DFARS)
- Experience in a government/FAR buying environment strongly preferred
- Experience with metal fabrication commodities
- APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred
