About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead software engineering teams in designing, developing, integrating, and testing software solutions for complex hardware and mission applications
  • Represent software engineering in engagements with program leadership and key stakeholders
  • Maintain communication across software and program leadership regarding issues, changes, bid activity, and execution impacts
  • Drive schedules, resolve issues, and coordinate work across teams to meet program milestones
  • Guide agile delivery, including work prioritization, Program Increment planning, team dependencies, and capacity needs
  • Lead estimates, forecasts, planning, and workforce allocation
  • Prepare and deliver execution updates, risk assessments, forecasts, and planning inputs for reviews, proposals, and leadership forums
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines on requirements, interfaces, and technical approaches
  • Lead hiring, employee development, performance management, and succession planning
  • Advance software execution through process improvement, lessons learned, and effective engineering practices and technologies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field with at least 12 years of prior related experience; or graduate degree with at least 10 years of prior related experience; or at least 16 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree
  • Experience leading software-related work within a complex product development environment
  • Formal people leadership experience in a supervisor, manager, or similar role
  • Working knowledge of the software development life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, test, estimation, and technical documentation
  • Experience operating within cost, schedule, and technical constraints with program and engineering stakeholders
  • Experience communicating technical and execution matters clearly to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance
  • Preferred: experience as Program Execution Lead, Product Owner, Scrum Master, section leader, or program manager on a software-intensive program
  • Preferred: active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance
  • Preferred: agile execution experience, including Program Increment planning, backlog prioritization, dependency coordination, and sprint delivery oversight
  • Preferred: experience with engineering forecasts, proposal activities, basis of estimate development, earned value management inputs, and leadership reviews
  • Preferred: experience developing subordinate leaders in a multi-team engineering organization
  • Preferred: experience leading teams supporting multiple products or subsystems with differing mission objectives, technical stacks, and operational users
  • Preferred: working knowledge of third-party software integration and sustainment in secure operational systems
  • Preferred: working knowledge of distributed systems supporting command and control messaging, streaming audio, file transfer, and data dissemination
  • Preferred: working knowledge of systems engineering, hardware engineering, configuration management, mission assurance, operations, or program management
  • Preferred: working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server environments
  • Preferred: working knowledge of user interfaces, web applications, backend services, scripting, virtual machines, and containerized deployments
  • Preferred: working knowledge of C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Bash, Perl, and Python
