About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support development of image and video processing algorithm solutions for space-based infrared systems
  • Perform performance analyses of image and video processing algorithms for system-level trade studies
  • Support systems engineering trade studies, CONOP development, and modeling/simulation efforts
  • Work alongside embedded software and firmware teams optimizing and implementing algorithms for space-based systems
  • Develop and improve instrument documentation, processes, and test procedures
  • Support concept of operation development and requirements analysis, decomposition, and generation at various system levels
  • Support requirements traceability and development of test plans covering requirements
  • Support integration and testing of electro-optical/infrared systems and related hardware/software
  • Develop technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications
  • Support verification of compliance with requirements and validation of performance behavior
  • Become a subject matter expert in the relevant area
  • Define system requirements, support sensor and payload performance analysis, and mature technical solutions from concept through test and validation
  • Develop and assess detection and tracking approaches, support algorithm design and refinement, and execute sensor calibration and verification activities
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, modeling and simulation, and test teams
  • Support technical reviews, risk reduction efforts, and translation of mission needs into actionable engineering requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a Graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
  • Eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with infrared or electro-optical sensing systems, space or missile defense mission applications, systems engineering processes, and performance assessment methods
  • Experience with spacecraft, satellite, or other complex aerospace system development with responsibility at the subsystem, system, or vehicle level
  • Experience architecting, analyzing, developing, and integrating end-to-end systems, including EO/IR, RF, or space payload and spacecraft bus subsystems
  • Experience with requirements management, interface control, system integration, verification and validation, and technical baseline management
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements management tools, and configuration management processes
  • Experience developing embedded software/firmware
  • Experience with data analysis and/or modeling and simulation
  • Experience with estimating and managing costs
  • Familiarity with program management, cost account management, and integrated product teams
  • Active security clearance preferred
  • Proficient in Python preferred
  • Ability to work effectively across cross-functional engineering teams, communicate technical issues clearly to leadership, and support execution in a multi-site development environment
