About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and implement a regional business plan covering growth, staffing, client development, technical capabilities, and financial performance.
  • Identify emerging market needs, regulatory developments, and service opportunities for public- and private-sector solid waste/environmental clients.
  • Establish measurable practice goals and evaluate progress.
  • Coordinate regional initiatives with division, business development, and regional leadership.
  • Promote collaboration and consistent service delivery across offices, disciplines, and geographic markets.
  • Develop and strengthen current and prospective client relationships.
  • Monitor the regional opportunity pipeline and coordinate business development activities.
  • Lead strategic pursuits, including go/no-go decisions, teaming strategies, proposals, interviews, and contract negotiations.
  • Serve as a trusted adviser regarding clients’ operational, regulatory, financial, and long-term planning needs.
  • Oversee workload, staffing, utilization, revenue, profitability, backlog, and accounts receivable.
  • Allocate resources and balance workloads among offices and teams.
  • Assist with budgets, revenue projections, staffing plans, and investment priorities.
  • Evaluate project performance and implement corrective measures for financial, schedule, scope, or quality concerns.
  • Provide executive and technical oversight for significant, complex, or high-risk projects.
  • Ensure effective, timely, professional, and financially responsible service delivery.
  • Promote quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Support project managers with technical challenges, regulatory issues, contract concerns, and client needs.
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop technical and project management staff.
  • Support employee development through training, coaching, licensing, leadership opportunities, and succession planning.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused workplace.
  • Oversee or support solid waste/environmental services including landfill planning and permitting, master planning, transfer stations, recycling, landfill gas, leachate, waste characterization, construction administration, financial planning, environmental monitoring, compliance, due diligence, site evaluations, geological investigations, ecological, and wetlands services.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, geological, or related engineering or environmental science field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer/Geologist license preferred.
  • Substantial experience in solid waste compliance or engineering, environmental consulting, or a related professional-services field.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams, managing complex projects, developing client relationships, and achieving business growth.
  • Strong understanding of solid waste/environmental regulations, permitting requirements, facility operations, and industry trends.
  • Experience managing budgets, project performance, staffing, and financial objectives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned region as necessary.
