About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the architecture of Lambda's global network, including GPU fabrics, data center fabrics, backbone, and internet edge
- Build multi-year roadmaps for network architecture, data center fabrics, and cloud connectivity
- Set strategy for peering, transit, IX footprint, and backbone traffic engineering
- Partner with security, product, and executive leaders to align network strategy with business goals
- Own network readiness for every AI data center build, including management, site turn-up, and validation
- Own network OpEx and CapEx budgets and reduce cost per GPU, port, and Gbps
- Own 24/7 global network operations, uptime, latency, jitter, on-call health, incident response, and blameless postmortems
- Establish telemetry and monitoring architecture for proactive risk mitigation
- Drive automation-first engineering using Infrastructure-as-Code, declarative configuration management, and version-controlled automated testing
- Own company-level goals for network security posture, network health, and traffic engineering capability
- Partner with the CISO organization on segmentation, zero-trust edge patterns, and SASE frameworks
- Lead multidisciplinary network and software engineering teams; hire, develop, and retain engineers and leaders
- Manage through leads and senior individual contributors with regular 1:1s, feedback, growth planning, and sponsorship
- Partner with Principal Engineers and technical leadership to maintain high engineering standards
- Represent the organization’s work and technical direction to senior leadership, enterprise customers, and partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years designing and operating highly available, large-scale networks for cloud infrastructure or enterprise network architecture
- Experience leading network engineering teams and 2+ years managing managers
- Deep expertise in BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, Clos and spine-leaf fabrics, software-defined networking, traffic engineering, zero-trust security, network automation, and cloud platforms such as AWS or OCI
- Experience designing or operating high-performance fabrics at scale, including internet, backbone, RoCEv2, or InfiniBand
- Proven track record building and scaling engineering organizations delivering mission-critical, high-performance cloud connectivity
- Experience owning network capital and operating budgets and managing hardware, optics, transit, and colocation vendors
- Ability to translate ambiguous business and product goals into team priorities and engineering plans
- Strong judgment about technical depth, delegation, and escalation
- Track record of project and product delivery in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Ability and willingness to work onsite at the Bellevue or San Francisco office 4 days a week
- Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; sponsorship may be available
