About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the development and refinement of Laminar’s machine learning models for process optimization
- Build machine learning models for data-driven, fluid-based industrial processes using proprietary spectral sensors and software
- Design and run experiments to evaluate and select generalizable, accurate, and robust models
- Work with spectral and multimodal sensor data
- Build preprocessing and feature extraction pipelines for noisy, real-world sensor data
- Develop monitoring and correction systems for model drift, sensor drift, and process anomalies
- Develop performant ML infrastructure and tooling with ML/Data Scientists and software team members
- Work across chemometrics, hybrid modeling, and self-supervised learning
- Perform distribution modeling, drift and anomaly detection, similarity analyses, and continuous calibration
- Bring models from prototype to production, scale model training methodologies, craft experiments, and run ablation studies
- Enable new use cases and help unlock key markets
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ambitious, hard-working recent graduate
- Proficient in at least one Python ML framework (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow)
- Fluent with Python packages for numeric computing and data workflows (e.g. NumPy, Polars, Pandas, scikit-learn)
- Favors clean, testable code and has a proven track record of delivering high-quality work on a timeline
- Can independently complete technical project objectives
- Detail-oriented with natural curiosity about data
- Enthusiastic about testing hypotheses, understanding model behavior, and running physical experiments
- Chemical engineering, process engineering, or manufacturing domain knowledge highly valued
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP) and/or Databricks preferred
- Familiarity with spectral data, time-series modeling, or sensor-driven ML preferred
- Familiarity with Bayesian modeling and probabilistic reasoning preferred
- Experience building real products, ideally utilizing machine learning, and practicing user-centric design preferred
