About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and prototype PCBs from commercially available and custom sensors using KiCAD, SolidWorks, and PSPICE
  • Design mechanical housings tailored to difficult industrial deployment environments
  • Develop and implement test strategies with the Laminar Data Analysis team
  • Collect and present data in informal and formal reviews for rapid analysis and sensor comparisons
  • Lead internal teams working on new system design, with rapid evaluation and high system ownership
  • Integrate sensors with established testing platforms using Zephyr RTOS
  • Develop creative approaches to product sensing to solve critical client problems
  • Provide design, assembly, and debugging assistance across multiple hardware projects
  • Own the network and control-system layer of customer deployments
  • Configure networks, commission PLC connections, and troubleshoot integration issues from initial installation through steady-state operation
  • Document recurring patterns to accelerate future deployments
  • Work directly with customer IT and OT teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years (senior level) experience in electronics design, mechanical design, and data analysis
  • Significant electrical OR mechanical experience
  • PCB SMD and THT soldering, rework, troubleshooting, oscilloscope use, digital signal analysis, switch mode power supply design, and EMI troubleshooting
  • PCB design experience with advanced microcontrollers, low-noise analog sensor systems, industrial communications protocols, and high-density design
  • Mechanical design principles for CNC-machined housings, watertight sealing, and customer UX in industrial products
  • Significant product development experience focused on new product bring-up and R&D
  • Embedded-system coding experience, preferably in Zephyr RTOS or similar
  • Comfortable with electromechanical assemblies, data logging, and system-level topics
  • Clear, efficient, and respectful communication; ability to balance multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Preferred: significant electrical AND mechanical experience
  • Preferred: full-stack product development from concept through volume production and sunsetting
  • Preferred: experience with PCB contract manufacturers, domestic and international machine shops, and DFM concepts
  • Preferred: mechanical design in difficult environments such as ATEX zones or automotive
  • Preferred: Zephyr RTOS experience
  • Preferred: RF experience, including antenna design and tuning or RF spectroscopy
