About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform detailed, complex inspections of multidisciplinary public works, waterworks, and utility construction projects
  • Integrate plans, details, and specifications to ensure construction and contract compliance
  • Prepare project inspection reports
  • Assist with the change order process
  • Meet with contractors and engineers
  • Attend design reviews, preconstruction meetings, and progress meetings
  • Monitor and inspect construction activities within transmission-system rights-of-way
  • Ensure transmission lines, fiber optic and telemetry cable, cathodic protection equipment, and other structures are protected
  • Ensure proper grade-level separations are maintained
  • Travel pipeline inspection routes
  • Perform pipeline pathway locations
  • Inspect construction activities for deviations from encroachment approvals and pipeline construction requirements
  • Perform field tests and interpret observations and test results
  • Coordinate necessary work between contractors, property owners, public agencies, the public, and other entities
  • Record accurate documentation using online digital tools and applications
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Four years of experience as an Inspector II or six years as a project inspector in the waterworks industry, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Completion of Las Vegas Valley Water District advanced inspector training course certification
  • Knowledge of public works, waterworks, and utility construction laws, codes, standards, and regulations, including ACI, NEC, AWWA, and ASTM
  • Knowledge of engineering construction principles, construction materials and equipment, water system operation, safety procedures, engineering, hydraulics, electronics, chemistry, mathematics, asphalt paving, structural concrete, pump and motor operation, surveying, compaction, and water transmission/pipeline networks
  • Ability to interpret complex water facility construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to operate construction, location, surveying, testing, and electronic tools, including nuclear density gauges and online digital applications
  • Ability to perform quantity calculations, estimates, field tests, inspections, documentation, and pipeline pathway locations
  • Ability to work independently in the field and coordinate work among multiple entities
  • Valid Nevada driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability
  • Required certifications, or ability to obtain within one year: nuclear density gauge operation; ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I; Las Vegas Valley Water District Advanced Inspection Training Course; Nevada State or AWWA Water Distribution/Water Treatment Operator Grade II; ACIA Registered Construction Inspector Division I or IV
