About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the scientific authority on ground truth for pathogen-countermeasure AI benchmarks
- Build tasks covering antigen and immunogen comparison, epitope mapping, neutralization and cross-reactivity, antiviral susceptibility, and resistance interpretation
- Write gold-standard answers from raw data with tolerances reflecting assay, replicate, and strain variability
- Curate neutralization titers, binding and epitope maps, serology time courses, EC50 and dose-response curves, and viral sequences with resistance markers
- Test whether AI agents distinguish real escape or resistance from assay artifacts
- Evaluate whether agents separate binding from neutralization, immunogenicity from protection, and laboratory resistance from clinical relevance
- Assess immune imprinting, waning, and cross-resistance when ranking candidates
- Challenge conclusions that would not withstand a program review
- Identify agent errors, expert alternatives, and evidence that would change the assessment
- Reward explicit uncertainty over confident guesses
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop benchmark tasks and datasets
- Participate in take-home, technical, culture, and background-check stages of the hiring process
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of hands-on experience in either vaccine/antibody development or antiviral development, ideally in respiratory viruses (influenza, RSV, or coronaviruses)
- Deep expertise in at least one of: vaccine antigen design, immunogen engineering, therapeutic antibody discovery, epitope mapping, neutralization, cross-reactivity, immune recognition, comparative candidate evaluation, antibody responses, immune imprinting, waning immunity, antiviral susceptibility and resistance, phenotypic drug-response and viral sequence data, antiviral discovery, mechanism-of-action studies, candidate evaluation, treatment-emergent resistance, cross-resistance, resistance-marker interpretation, assay development, validation, or dose-response analysis
- PhD in immunology, virology, microbiology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Personally analyzed data rather than only supervising it
- Daily use of Claude, ChatGPT, or similar AI tools
- Judgment to identify answers that are technically correct but scientifically wrong
- Ability to overrule an AI agent and openness to update when shown wrong
- For US employment, ability to work full-time as a W-2 employee; visa sponsorship is available for H-1B, O-1, and TN, with STEM OPT support
