About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define expert reasoning for peptide discovery questions and write gold-standard answers with rationale
  • Design realistic scenarios across target tractability, hit generation, hit confirmation and kinetics, binding-site mapping, functional confirmation, and lead optimization
  • Curate datasets from display selection, SPR/BLI, fluorescence polarization, affinity-selection MS, HDX-MS, crosslinking-MS, NMR, dose-response, permeability, and stability programs
  • Build Python analysis pipelines for enrichment analysis, kinetic fitting, and dose-response fitting
  • Produce verifiable ground truth with tolerances across replicates and fitting routines
  • Partner with software engineers to create benchmark workflows
  • Test whether AI agents distinguish true signals from experimental artifacts
  • Adjudicate conflicting binding-site and engagement evidence
  • Evaluate tradeoffs between binding, function, potency, and developability
  • Interrogate agent reasoning step by step
  • Identify agent errors and explain what evidence would change the conclusion
  • Score agent confidence and reward appropriate uncertainty

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • PhD in peptide chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, medicinal chemistry, or a related field
  • Senior, hands-on peptide discovery experience analyzing real program data
  • Direct experience with at least one of: display selection, SPR/BLI or FP binding kinetics, binding-site mapping by structural MS or NMR, or peptide developability
  • Deep expertise in at least one area: display and selection, biophysics, structural mapping, or peptide medicinal chemistry
  • Working fluency across the other peptide discovery areas
  • Strong command of experimental design, quantitative data analysis in Python or R, and statistics
  • Daily use of Claude, Cursor, or similar AI agents
  • Judgment to identify technically correct but scientifically unsound model reasoning
  • Ability to calibrate confidence and communicate uncertainty
  • US citizenship, permanent residency, or OPT-holder status
  • Unable to require STEM OPT extension or visa sponsorship

Benefits

Comp & perks
  • Uncapped upside
  • Guaranteed pay for weeks 1–4 while ramping
  • Full-time work on your own schedule
  • Catered lunch and dinner daily for onsite workers
  • Waterfront office in Mission Bay
  • Monthly parking when available
  • Company outings most months
  • Team off-sites
