About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Greet patients, guests, and family members
  • Schedule patients for services with appropriate providers, locations, and times
  • Search for existing patient accounts and create new accounts according to registration policy
  • Register patients and maintain accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information
  • Activate scheduled patient accounts and resolve work queue errors
  • Gather, validate, scan, and maintain patient forms and documentation
  • Verify insurance eligibility and notify insurance companies of admissions
  • Complete provider messages using the In-Basket messaging system
  • Update the electronic medical record with patient account status information
  • Analyze financial responsibility, explain copayments and balances, and collect payments
  • Provide information about financial assistance programs and refer patients to financial counselors
  • Deliver courteous customer service to patients, families, providers, visitors, and internal/external customers
  • Answer and transfer calls and provide directions
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments
  • Balance the cash drawer, make adjustments, prepare reports, and follow cash drawer policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED or appropriate work experience
  • Accurate and timely patient scheduling, registration, messaging, and admissions processing
  • Ability to collect and validate demographic, financial, insurance, guarantor, Medicare Secondary Payor, and primary care physician/referring physician information
  • Ability to use electronic medical records and In-Basket messaging systems
  • Ability to perform insurance verification and eligibility tasks
  • Ability to collect copayments and residual payments and explain financial responsibility
  • Ability to balance a cash drawer and prepare cash logs
  • Ability to meet registration collection goals and facility-specific LCMC requirements
  • Ability to perform light work and meet the listed physical demands
  • Proof of citizenship or immigration status required to verify lawful right to work in the United States
