About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the CFO and perform Financial and Project Accounting responsibilities
- Lead budgeting, financial reporting, project cost monitoring, invoicing, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable oversight
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Collaborate with Project Managers, the CFO, and stakeholders on financial accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
- Close fiscal month-ends and year-ends and prepare/review external audit working papers
- Ensure monthly and annual GL reconciliations
- Review bank reconciliations and assist with fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and Errors and Omissions accruals
- Prepare Joint Venture financial statements and related documents
- Prepare consolidation worksheets and intercompany reconciliations
- Guide Project Managers on company best practices and analyze Estimated Costs to Complete
- Make revenue recognition and provision recommendations
- Provide project financial health reports and educate Project Managers on the accounting system
- Develop and implement project controls for financial risk management
- Prepare monthly tax, sales tax, and other remittances
- Submit required filings to Statistics Canada
- Prepare operating and capital budgets
- Manage cash, accounts receivable collections, accounts payable, and banking
- Prepare reports required by the bank
- Record and reconcile company share transactions
- Support accounting team development, mentoring, and additional Finance & Accounting assignments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Post-secondary degree specializing in Accounting
- Minimum 10 years of experience, including 5 years in a managerial position
- CPA designation or equivalent
- Experience working with an engineering consulting firm
- Knowledge of Deltek VantagePoint is required
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proven accomplishments as a problem-solver
- Ability to work periodically from the Markham/Toronto office
