About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, support, implement, and develop Ignition standards, pipelines, databases, and interfaces across Lear globally
- Oversee design, testing, implementation, and training of HMI and SCADA systems interfacing with process instrumentation, PLCs, and OITs
- Work with on-premises and cloud infrastructure supporting local and remote access
- Manage large projects or processes with limited managerial oversight
- Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals
- Lead customer-facing technical discussions on architectures
- Commission systems on-site and perform FAT/SAT protocols
- Deliver training to client operations and maintenance teams
- Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance
- Implement disaster recovery and high-availability strategies
- Create functional design specifications and maintain as-built documentation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- 7+ years hands-on experience designing, developing, and deploying Ignition SCADA systems (Vision and/or Perspective)
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, Java, and other programming languages
- Experience architecting enterprise-scale Ignition 8.x SCADA solutions, including Perspective HMI/SCADA applications, Vision projects, and Gateway infrastructure
- Experience with UDT hierarchies, Tag Historian configurations, Transaction Groups, and Alarming systems following ISA-95/ISA-88 standards
- Experience developing Named Queries, database schemas, and integration logic for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL or other enterprise databases
- Experience with OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT Sparkplug B, and RESTful API development using the WebDev module
- Experience building reusable component libraries and custom scripting modules across Gateway, Designer, and Client scopes
- Version control best practices
- Python/Jython scripting standards and architectural patterns
- Customer-facing technical architecture discussions
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards such as ISA/IEC 62443 and IT/OT network design
- Ability to commission systems on-site, perform FAT/SAT protocols, and deliver client training
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and implement disaster recovery/high availability strategies
- Ability to document system architectures, functional design specifications, and as-built documentation
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
