About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build and ship maintainable software across Learnosity's Build product, a cloud-based API toolkit for educational companies creating interactive and accessible assessment experiences at scale
Own work from early design through release
Lead complex projects end to end
Plan, estimate and schedule tasks, and maintain current documentation
Translate product and business goals into engineering solutions
Prove out complex functionality with real data before release
Find root causes of complex issues and deliver permanent fixes
Identify risks before they become problems
Mentor less experienced engineers
Raise design and delivery quality through code review and mentoring
Collaborate with engineering, product and design to align goals and keep delivery on track
Use AI tools and introduce technologies that improve delivery speed
Participate in the shared on-call roster after onboarding and training, typically one week every four to six weeks, supporting production systems outside normal working hours

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years as a software engineer, with a track record of owning and delivering complex projects end to end
Strong JavaScript and ReactJS, including state management (e.g. Redux, Context API), component-based architecture, design systems, CSS and front end debugging
Strong PHP, ideally with Symfony and/or Doctrine, and Python in a backend or data-oriented context
Experience with relational, NoSQL and document-oriented databases and query design in high performance environments
Good knowledge of design patterns and back end architecture
Experience writing unit, integration and frontend tests, working with Docker, and giving strong code reviews
Experience mentoring engineers and working in agile teams
Clear verbal and written communication, adjusted to the audience
Right to live and work in Ireland
Nice to have: commercial experience with AI tools and concepts
Nice to have: experience or interest in API design
Nice to have: experience with TDD
Nice to have: experience setting up or configuring CI/CD pipelines
Nice to have: experience with Node.js
Nice to have: B.Sc or M.Sc in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar
