About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Execute and implement health and safety programs for telecommunications projects
  • Develop and enhance Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents
  • Support operations personnel in meeting Ledcor Leading Indicator requirements
  • Conduct work-area inspections and meet with field supervisors about potential problems
  • Help ensure adequate supplies of safety equipment, including protective equipment, fire extinguishers, and respirators
  • Monitor environmental hazards such as excessive noise and toxic agents
  • Advise field supervisors and employees on HS&E-related issues
  • Conduct site safety orientations and internal HS&E training
  • Collaborate with HS&E management and coordinators to develop, revise, and implement procedures, standards, rules, and regulations
  • Educate and mentor field supervisors on program implementation
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Verify HS&E plans, safe work processes, and hazard assessments are current as work scopes change
  • Support site leadership with look-ahead planning
  • Assist with incident investigations, causation determination, corrective actions, and continuous-improvement monitoring
  • Monitor and report on implementation effectiveness of project HS&E plans
  • Audit field-level hazard assessments and incident investigation reports
  • Support preparation of safety-meeting and toolbox-talk materials
  • Travel to sites on a 14/7 rotational basis throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and potentially Western Manitoba
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of related work experience in a construction or telecommunications safety role
  • Certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety
  • CRSP, CSO or NCSO designation considered an asset
  • Technical knowledge of common construction practices, techniques, and equipment
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively to hourly workforce, project management staff, clients, and customers
  • Proactive approach to safety, including identifying operational and organizational issues and developing and implementing solutions
  • Experience in risk assessment, program development, safety and health training, and accident investigation
  • Strong computer competency, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to adapt information/style to the audience and explain difficult information clearly
  • Ability to influence and persuade others toward consensus agreement in straightforward situations
  • Strong team player attitude and ability to adjust to changing priorities and demands
  • Valid provincial driver's license and driver's abstract must be maintained
