About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report directly to the Group Controller.
- Own monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes for all assigned insurance entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate recording of journal entries, accruals, estimates and adjustments related to premiums, commissions, claims, deferred acquisition costs and other expenses.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, income statement fluctuation analysis and supporting schedules.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of financials in compliance with US GAAP, NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles and state regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures and documentation.
- Strengthen internal controls.
- Lead accounting process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability and accuracy.
- Collaborate with FP&A on financial forecasts, budget versus actual variances and management reporting.
- Leverage AI and high-tech systems to streamline insurance accounting workflows.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Understanding of property and casualty insurance accounting and statutory reporting.
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
- Familiarity with accounting and reporting software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using AI tools to improve or automate financial processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a collaborative and fast-paced setting.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
- Workday and Gain experience is a plus.
