About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide a caring, safe, and well-managed environment for children’s learning activities and imaginative play.
- Teach basic skills including colors, shapes, numbers, letters, and social skills.
- Establish lesson objectives and prepare, organize, and lead instruction and activities.
- Evaluate children’s academic performance and social development.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about children’s progress.
- Enforce district preschool policies and rules.
- Ensure meals and snacks follow nutritional guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development.
- Prepare student progress reports.
- Supervise and evaluate teacher assistants.
- Conduct inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Plan, develop, and implement age-appropriate curriculum.
- Devise and deliver daily lesson plans.
- Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments and learning concepts.
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support classroom goals.
- Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities.
- Model appropriate cleanup behavior after lunchtime.
- Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, files, records, and safety logs.
- Prepare instructional materials, posters, copies, bulletin boards, files, and newsletters.
- Provide nurturing comfort and security for young students.
- Report student observations, incidents, safety conditions, and behavioral changes.
- Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers and encourage parent participation.
- Liaise with families during transitions between home, school, classrooms, toddler programs, preschool, and kindergarten.
- Monitor students in classrooms, playgrounds, and other settings.
- Keep Teacher Assistants updated on classroom and program matters.
- Provide functional training and guidance to staff, interns, substitutes, and volunteers.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED.
- Food Handler’s Card/Certification.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
- Required to pass a criminal history background check.
- CPR and First Aid Certified.
- Present a recent (within 1 year) Negative TB test.
- 6 months experience or more working in an Early Childcare setting.
- Positively interact with all students.
- Create a safe learning environment conducive to learning.
- Capable of designing lesson plans to meet student needs and school and state requirements.
- Able to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices that effectively teach the curriculum.
- Ability to identify individual student needs.
- Good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration and parents.
- Ability to collaborate with other teachers and school staff.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
- Commitment to the teaching profession through professional development.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to interact positively with students, parents, teachers and administrators.
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
- Local and in-state travel required.
- Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds on occasion.
