About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide family law legal services from the Honolulu office
- Represent clients in divorce, paternity, child welfare/guardian ad litem, domestic violence, restraining order, adoption, and guardianship matters
- Participate in community engagement and partnership building
- Develop self-help materials
- Conduct outreach and education
- Participate in statewide initiatives
- Provide day-to-day oversight of non-attorney staff
- Assist in supervising law students
- Conduct home visits, outreach, trainings, and travel to Family Court, Circuit Court, and other locations as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Hawaii is preferred; highly qualified individuals licensed in another state and eligible to practice in Hawaii under Rule 1.16 of the Rules of the Hawaii Supreme Court will be considered
- Demonstrable commitment to social justice
- Experience working with abuse survivors, disabled and/or low-income populations strongly preferred
- Family law experience strongly preferred
- Experience in the family court system or child welfare system is a plus
- Desire to develop litigation skills or litigation experience required
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
- Organizational skills to manage a busy practice, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision
- Ability to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner
- Humility when working with colleagues and clients across diverse backgrounds, including limited English proficiency
- Basic computer skills required
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for home visits, outreach, trainings, Oahu travel, and court locations
