About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide environmental and safety support to the FAA’s Environmental Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) programs
  • Support programs including Indoor Air Quality, Asbestos Management, Lead Management, Polychlorinated Biphenyls Management, Chemical/Hazardous Waste Management, Pesticide Management, Drinking Water Management, Fuel Storage Tank Management, Fall Protection, Hearing Safety, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, and Radiation
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys
  • Submit technical reports with findings and guidance to resolve or mitigate EOSH issues
  • Write reports under strict deadlines and identify exceedances in analytical reports
  • Manage inspections using electronic data and online data storage locations
  • Research and interpret Federal, State, Local, and FAA rules and regulations
  • Use sampling instrumentation and techniques
  • Provide technical EOSH training to employees
  • Deliver problem-solving and customer service support to FAA customers
  • Work with a larger team of EOSH professionals supporting the FAA’s Eastern Service Area
  • Report to the customer site as needed, including the Memphis customer site
  • Travel up to 75 percent, including overnight travel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience or Master’s degree and relevant experience
  • Environmental, health and safety experience
  • Experience with EOSH field equipment such as PID, XRF, and dosimeters
  • Experience obtaining and developing asbestos samples and reports
  • Experience conducting and developing indoor air quality samples and reports
  • Technical competence in surveying and developing Fall Protection and Electrical Safety issues and reports
  • Experience obtaining and developing drinking water samples and reports
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project
  • Ability to work with and maintain information in a Knowledge Sharing Network (KSN)/SharePoint site(s)
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance
  • Must be located in the Boston, MA area
  • Ability to climb towers and/or receive and provide fall protection training and complete tower safety inspections
  • Ability to provide comprehensive technical EOSH training
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with senior-level management and internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Overnight travel required in many instances
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or similar preferred
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or Environmental Engineering preferred
