About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide face-to-face counseling to military Service Members and their families, including individual, couples, family, and children’s counseling
  • Provide counseling, consultation, outreach, coaching, guidance, and support to eligible Service Members, adult family members, children, youth, parents, staff, and faculty
  • Deliver preventative, solution-focused counseling addressing military-community challenges such as relationships, stress, parenting, deployments, relocations, financial issues, bullying, conflict resolution, and transitions
  • Recommend appropriate referrals and handoffs to military and community resources using differential clinical skills
  • Offer presentations addressing social skills development and social emotional learning
  • Build rapport with Service Members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events
  • Observe, participate, and engage in activities with children and youth
  • Model behavior management techniques for staff and parents
  • Serve on a flexible Mission Ready Reserve/PRN-type schedule when called upon, at the counselor’s discretion
  • Work across military installations, units, schools, child development centers, camps, and community settings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD)
  • Licensure to practice at the independent practice level (LCSW, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist) in a state or territory of the United States
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to pass a basic background check for employment
  • Must be able to pass a National /Child National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance
  • SOCOM positions require at least a Secret (T3) clearance
  • Must be within commuting distance to the installation
  • Ability to provide counseling to adults, children, youth, parents, staff, and faculty as applicable
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, traverse uneven grassy, gravel, and/or dirt areas, ascend/descend stairs, and sit on the floor for up to 2 hours in CDC settings
