About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead enterprise virtualization operations on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization for the SEC ISS contract and SEC OIT infrastructure mission
- Design, administer, and continuously optimize OpenShift Virtualization to deliver secure, resilient, high-performing VM services
- Support 24x7x365 operational readiness, incident response, and coordination with the Enterprise Operations Center and infrastructure teams
- Lead the migration from VMware to OpenShift Virtualization using Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV/Forklift)
- Deploy, configure, and maintain the OpenShift Virtualization operator, KubeVirt components, CDI, and cluster services
- Manage VM lifecycle operations including provisioning, live migration, cloning, snapshots, patching, and decommissioning
- Configure VM networking and storage using Multus, OVN-Kubernetes, NetworkAttachmentDefinitions, ODF/Ceph, CSI drivers, and DataVolumes
- Ensure high availability, node-failure resilience, disaster recovery readiness, and performance tuning
- Troubleshoot OpenShift cluster and VM guest issues
- Monitor health, performance, and capacity with Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, and cluster logging
- Coordinate incident triage, escalation, and service restoration
- Maintain SOPs, runbooks, knowledge articles, audit-ready documentation, migration records, and recovery procedures
- Lead technical teams, manage workloads and project tasks, and report operational status, migration progress, risks, and performance metrics
- Coordinate planned changes, maintenance windows, and implementation activities under SEC change control
- Enforce secure configuration, patch compliance, SCCs, NetworkPolicies, image policies, and FedRAMP-aligned hardening
- Align operations with FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and SEC OIT policy
- Apply GitOps and infrastructure-as-code patterns using Argo CD/OpenShift GitOps, Ansible Automation Platform, Helm, and Kustomize
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must meet contract citizenship/work authorization requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher if required)
- Bachelors in a relevant field such as Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization (EX316) or equivalent required; VMware VCP-DCV accepted with commitment to obtain EX316 post-hire within a defined window
- 9–12 years of experience supporting server virtualization technology in enterprise environments, including hands-on OpenShift Virtualization/KubeVirt or comparable Kubernetes-native virtualization platforms
- Experience leading technical teams supporting system operations
- Experience planning and managing virtualization operations workloads, projects, and administrative functions
- Hands-on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform administration, including oc/kubectl, Operators, CRDs, and RBAC
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration experience
- Expertise with OpenShift Virtualization/CNV/KubeVirt and OpenShift Container Platform design and administration
- Senior troubleshooting across OpenShift cluster and VM guest layers
- Incident coordination in a 24x7x365 enterprise operations environment
- Operational documentation, runbook maintenance, and change-control execution
- Willingness to travel as required per contract direction
- Preferred: VMware-to-OpenShift migrations using MTV/Forklift; RHCE on RHEL 9; CKA; DO180/DO280/DO380 training; Argo CD/OpenShift GitOps; Ansible Automation Platform; ODF/Ceph; VCP-DCV; federal civilian infrastructure operations; hybrid on-premises/cloud environments; ITIL 4 Foundation or similar
