About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and support delivery of substation physical design projects
  • Partner with internal engineering groups and external clients to understand needs and deliver solutions
  • Perform QA/QC reviews on substation physical design packages
  • Read, design, and review one-lines, three-lines, plan-and-section views, grounding layouts, and foundation designs
  • Create and verify bills of materials for substation physical components
  • Conduct site visits at customer locations to gather data, validate designs, and support project execution
  • Comply with quality control and safe work practices
  • Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Work as part of a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians
  • Implement designs according to client standards
  • Apply digital logic design and AC/DC circuit expertise to substation physical layouts for 12 kV to 500 kV utility systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years of substation physical design experience
  • Senior level: 8+ years of substation physical design experience
  • Experience performing grounding studies, lightning protection analysis, and lighting studies
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and clients
  • Ability to meet deadlines and stay organized in fast-paced or high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide leadership when needed
  • Self-starter able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical abilities and engineering problem-solving skills
  • High level of computer competency and comfort working with engineering tools and software
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as needed
  • Candidates for the remote option must be located in the United States within Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, or Virginia
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites or the office as needed
  • Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification, PE license, working knowledge of protection and control design, bus calculation experience, WinIGS or CDEGS experience, and a related master’s degree are listed as additional qualifications
