About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review and evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, studies, and calculations prepared by EPC contractors, consultants, and equipment vendors
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and owner-specific requirements, including IEEE, NESC, and utility standards
  • Provide technical guidance on substation physical, transmission line, civil and structural, distribution, and protection and control designs
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value-engineering discussions
  • Support project managers by translating technical issues into actionable decisions
  • Review vendor submittals, equipment data sheets, FAT/SAT results, and test reports
  • Support development and enforcement of engineering standards and best practices
  • Provide technical support during construction, including RFI responses, field issue resolution, and design clarifications
  • Evaluate technical risks and recommend mitigations affecting cost, schedule, and system reliability
  • Track engineering deliverables and ensure timely resolution of technical issues
  • Serve as technical advocate and trusted advisor to the project owner
  • Provide oversight, coordination, and quality assurance across planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another related degree
  • Ten (10+) years of direct experience in substation protection and control design
  • Ability to lead substation design projects by aligning engineering execution with program management
  • Occasional site visits to client substation facilities may be required
  • Occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events may be required
