About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at 12kV to 500kV
- Apply knowledge of digital logic design and AC/DC circuits to substation electrical projects
- Perform relay one-line design
- Create three-line AC schematic designs
- Create DC protection schematic designs
- Design panel layouts and wiring
- Develop bills of materials based on design criteria
- Perform quality control checks on wiring design
- Provide project lifecycle support from scoping through final design and implementation
- Provide construction support
- Apply National Electrical Safety Code minimum requirements to design processes
- Implement client standards in designs
- Work with designers/drafters to create required project drawings
- Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, quality control, and safe work practices
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians
- Interface with local clients and utility clients nationwide
- Perform electrical power calculations
- Interact with substation, telecom, and civil/structural disciplines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with two (2+) or more years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience
- Experience in executing substation protection and control projects
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients
- Ability to read and design one-line, three-line, AC/DC schematic, and wiring drawings
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction
- Strong analytical skills and proven problem-solving ability
- High level of computer competency
- Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites
- Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) professional certification (additional)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License (additional)
- Experience performing quality control checks on small substation protection and control design projects (additional)
- Experience working on CAD tools (additional)
- Master’s degree in related field (additional)
- Field testing/commissioning experience (additional)
