About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review, edit, format, and perform quality control of complex technical documents and deliverables
  • Review grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, readability, consistency, organization, and technical terminology while preserving technical intent and accuracy
  • Perform quality reviews across narrative text, tables, figures, appendices, references, acronyms, terminology, units of measure, numbering, and supporting data
  • Perform document-level QA/QC to identify inconsistencies, missing or conflicting information, formatting issues, and other potential errors before client submission
  • Apply client and project style guides, templates, formatting standards, and document control requirements
  • Coordinate with technical personnel to incorporate figures and supporting materials into final deliverables
  • Support electronic document production, compilation, and delivery
  • Manage multiple documents and priorities while meeting project schedules and submission deadlines
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, project managers, technical specialists, and other project personnel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, technical communication, communication, journalism, or a related discipline
  • Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and professional writing conventions
  • Ability to edit complex technical material for clarity and consistency without altering technical meaning
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Word, including track changes, search capabilities, tables, cross-references, and document navigation
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical, repeatable approach to quality control
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, contributors, review cycles, and deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with technical professionals and communicate editorial recommendations diplomatically and clearly
  • Willingness to learn and consistently apply established project procedures and document control practices
  • Ability to meet applicable government client and site access requirements
  • Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in English, technical communication, communication, journalism, or a related discipline
  • Preferred: Experience with large, complex technical reports
  • Preferred: Experience with SharePoint or other electronic document management and collaboration systems
  • Preferred: Familiarity with environmental investigation and remediation terminology and regulatory programs such as RCRA, CERCLA, or NEPA
  • Preferred: Advanced Microsoft Word skills
  • Preferred: Academic coursework, internship, practicum, or student publication experience involving environmental, scientific, or engineering subject matter
