About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Write, revise, and maintain complex technical documentation, including equipment manuals, appendices, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and product-support materials
  • Organize technical content according to established terminology, style, accuracy, and usability standards
  • Interview engineers, production personnel, and subject-matter experts about technologies, procedures, manufacturing processes, and system requirements
  • Review drawings, specifications, product samples, technical data, manufacturer documentation, and trade publications
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to document operating procedures, assembly sequences, and equipment details
  • Analyze product and technology changes, identify documentation impacts, recommend updates, and develop new materials
  • Edit, standardize, and improve documentation prepared by writers, engineers, or business personnel
  • Serve as the site’s documentation-review expert and provide guidance on quality, clarity, consistency, and publication readiness
  • Coordinate layout, publication, duplication, distribution, and revision control of technical materials
  • Select or help develop photographs, drawings, diagrams, sketches, charts, and other visual aids
  • Collaborate with customer representatives, vendors, internal leaders, and publishers to clarify specifications and documentation requirements
  • Work with Configuration Management to maintain documentation records, files, revisions, and publication history
  • Support the mission, values, and culture of Leonardo DRS and DRS RADA Technologies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, technical communication, engineering, a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least eight years of relevant technical writing, technical publication, or documentation-development experience
  • Experience creating complex technical documentation for equipment, systems, manufacturing processes, engineering products, or similar technical environments
  • Advanced proficiency with desktop publishing and document-development tools, particularly Microsoft Word
  • Strong ability to interpret and synthesize technical drawings, specifications, product data, operating procedures, and engineering information
  • Ability to work directly with engineers, manufacturing personnel, and other subject-matter experts to gather, validate, and communicate complex information
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, organization, and document-control skills
  • Sound judgment and a detail-oriented approach to documentation review, revision management, and quality assurance
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and collaborate effectively across functions
  • Writing sample required as part of the application
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Active DOD security clearance or ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment
