About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the operational health, availability and reliability of Letterboxd's production platform
Monitor and improve performance, capacity, scalability and resilience as the community and product grow
Define service measures, alerts and operational standards
Establish 24/7 infrastructure support, including an on-call roster and response processes
Help build a team of reliability engineers over time
Own and improve infrastructure security across cloud, networking, access, secrets and deployment environments
Build security into infrastructure design and delivery
Lead technical responses to major incidents
Maintain escalation, on-call, backup and disaster recovery practices and test them regularly
Facilitate blameless post-incident reviews
Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment tooling and release practices
Champion infrastructure as code, repeatable environments and automation
Set the infrastructure roadmap covering capacity, lifecycle, cost and technology planning
Retire ageing infrastructure components thoughtfully
Document critical systems, decisions and dependencies
Provide hands-on technical leadership, coach others and influence engineering decisions
Manage Letterboxd's company IT environment, including hardware, security, and employee onboarding and offboarding

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant experience owning cloud infrastructure in production for public-facing digital products
Bare metal experience, or interest in it, is a plus
Strong hands-on background across DevOps, site reliability, platform engineering or infrastructure engineering
Experience with containers, orchestration, infrastructure as code and modern deployment pipelines
Experience designing monitoring, observability, alerting, backup, recovery and incident management practices
Sound knowledge of systems architecture, networking, security and distributed systems
Experience improving performance, resilience and operational maturity in a growing environment
Experience supporting high-traffic platforms is valuable
Passion for film, television and the communities that form around them
Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Linux/Ubuntu, Cloudflare, Grafana, Sensu, Ansible, Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, CI/CD and shell scripting, or similar tools
