About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Directly monitor patient cardiac rhythm and oxygen saturation via remote monitoring system
  • Enter patient data, orders, and pertinent information into monitoring and computerized Patient Care systems
  • Receive orders and assign transmitters for remote telemetry
  • Respond to alarms and identify changes in patient status
  • Report patient-status changes to the appropriate RN in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoot the monitoring system
  • Recognize cardiac rhythms and changes in patient status and take appropriate action
  • Upload rhythm strips to the correct patient record and document interpretation, heart rate, PQRS measurements, and oxygen saturation
  • Provide quality patient care through monitoring of clinical data
  • Serve as preceptor for other Monitor Technician I staff and assist with orientation of new monitor technicians
  • Assist staff with critical thinking and timely problem-solving
  • Participate in teamwork, process improvement, patient safety initiatives, and organizational changes
  • Track equipment and use supplies efficiently
  • Prioritize workload according to patient and unit needs
  • Keep leaders informed of reports, activities, and stat results

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Minimum years of experience: None
  • Successful completion of an outside basic arrhythmia class or LMC's Basic Arrhythmia Course within the new hire probationary period
  • Candidates with Monitor Tech experience who successfully pass LMC's Basic Arrhythmia exam may be considered as having met the training requirement
  • No required certifications or licensure
  • Ability to monitor patient cardiac rhythm and oxygen saturation via remote monitoring system
  • Ability to enter patient data and orders into monitoring and computerized Patient Care systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot the monitoring system
  • Competence in recognizing cardiac rhythms and changes in patient status
  • Successful completion of annual Basic Arrhythmia exam
  • Completion of yearly safety training, mandatory classes, and employee health workup
  • Must meet Human Resources policies and attendance requirements
