About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions supporting Liberty's Student Information System initiative
- Develop Identity Management services and core SIS applications
- Work closely with technical leads, business analysts, and other developers
- Write clean, efficient code and participate in code reviews
- Analyze code, identify bugs, and resolve issues
- Deliver code on schedule and adhere to established processes
- Balance multiple technical challenges, tasks, deadlines, and shifting priorities
- Establish and enforce coding standards and conduct regular code reviews
- Make architectural decisions on individual features
- Lead technical discussions and facilitate consensus among developers
- Apply analytical thinking to software design and user experience decisions
- Support the team during potential High or Critical incidents after hours as needed
- Mentor junior developers and translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Explore innovative solutions to enhance features and improve user experience
- Provide constructive code-review feedback
- Support planning and structure team development processes
- Adhere to Liberty University policies and represent the University professionally
- Work effectively within LU's Christian model and mission
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field is required
- 5+ years of software development experience, with a strong portfolio of completed projects, is required
- Ability to guide architectural decisions and lead technical discussions within the team
- Deep understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., React, Angular) and back-end technologies (e.g., databases, Java, Node.js, PHP, Spring)
- Strong skills in designing scalable and maintainable systems and understanding design patterns
- Proficiency in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control practices, as well as knowledge of deployment strategies
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing English
- Strong interpersonal and public communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to assess situations, evaluate information, and solve routine and complex problems
- Ability to perform desk-based work, including computer use and data entry
- Ability to communicate effectively in meetings and collaborative settings, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Valid driver's license, acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance required when driving for the position
