About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide counseling services to agency patients in partnership with therapeutic animals and other treatment team providers
  • Review Washington Administrative Codes, Revised Codes, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Develop strength-based individual service plans with patients in compliance with WAC 246-341
  • Provide mental health evaluations, individual therapy, group therapy, and case management services
  • Work as part of a treatment team and coordinate care with other treatment providers
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date clinical files documenting services and patient contacts
  • Support and implement agency policies and procedures
  • Represent the agency at community meetings and clinical reviews with supervisor approval
  • Support barn chores as needed and collaborate with the equine specialist on horse selection
  • Prepare activities and debrief the treatment team after sessions
  • Support volunteer training as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with federal and state laws
  • Participate in occasional community-agency visits, staff retreats, and staff development activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university required
  • Meet the requirements of a mental health professional as defined in WAC 246-341
  • At least 2 years of experience working with adults suffering from co-occurring disorders to qualify as an MHP, or have an MSW degree
  • Meet all educational and supervised postgraduate experience requirements for a Mental Health Professional as defined in WAC 246-341
  • Familiarity with Washington State regulations related to mental health services (RCW 71.05) and chemical dependency services (WAC 246-341)
  • Current unencumbered driver's license and proof of current car insurance
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Great attendance
  • Ability to work well with others in a treatment team
  • Ability to stand/walk for up to 60 minutes at a time, 4 to 5 times per day
  • Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, sit, speak clearly, crouch, lift up to 50 lbs., hear, and use hands and fingers to manipulate writing utensils, equine tack, and keyboard keys
  • Ability to effectively operate an automobile regularly
  • Preferred: at least 1 year of experience providing therapeutic services partnered with animals
  • Preferred: EAGALA, PATH Intl., or Natural Lifemanship certification
  • Preferred: basic knowledge of horse behavior and horsemanship skills
  • Preferred: strong understanding of PATH Intl. standards for counseling services partnered with horses
