About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work on environmental and planning matters for a growing Portuguese pipeline of utility-scale solar farms
  • Collaborate with the Portuguese development team, internal teams, and external co-development partners
  • Manage all aspects of the planning process
  • Manage environmental processes across the project portfolio
  • Liaise with local authorities
  • Engage and manage consultants preparing environmental assessments and planning applications or amendments
  • Conduct initial site assessments for new development leads
  • Perform acquisition due diligence for large-scale solar energy projects at various development stages
  • Identify and report environmental and permitting risks, requirements, processes, and timeframes across the project pipeline
  • Review environmental planning and permit applications and authorisations
  • Analyze planning constraints using desktop assessments, GIS tools, and site visits
  • Manage consultants preparing environmental and planning assessments and management plans
  • Manage ecological monitoring activities and ensure compliance with industry best practices
  • Undertake stakeholder engagement for new solar farm developments, including meetings and consultation events
  • Engage with environmental authorities
  • Prepare technical specifications and consultant scopes of work for contracts
  • Undertake post-construction planning compliance audits for operational assets
  • Analyze upcoming legislation and assess its potential impact on projects
  • Travel around Portugal for site visits, community information events, and meetings with planning authorities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Solid knowledge of the Portuguese environmental and planning system
  • At least 5 years of experience managing environmental planning applications
  • Experience working on renewable energy projects, including wind or similar infrastructure/development, is beneficial
  • Experience using GIS tools for constraints mapping (ArcGIS or similar)
  • Excellent technical, project management, and communication skills
  • Ability to foster teamwork and assume increasing responsibilities
  • Fluent Portuguese and English
  • Full driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (master’s degree) in Environmental Engineering, Biology, or Forest Engineering is required
