About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and maintain backend services for the real-time translation pipeline, including audio ingestion, diarization hookups, streaming ASR/MT orchestration, and result fan-out
  • Implement event-driven routing logic for low-confidence segments and route them to the correct on-call interpreter by language
  • Build APIs and services for the bot/agent participant and meeting side panel
  • Contribute to interpreter correction and real-time broadcast systems
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
  • Contribute to GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines
  • Instrument services with logging, metrics, and tracing for observability
  • Partner with frontend/fullstack engineers to define API contracts for the live meeting UI and interpreter workbench
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and triage production issues
  • Generate post-meeting assets, including diarized transcripts, TXT/WebVTT/JSON exports, and per-line verification metadata
  • Work with senior engineers and Product to take services and features from design through production

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2–5 years of professional backend software engineering experience
  • Experience with production systems handling real-time or streaming data preferred
  • Experience building REST API endpoints and streaming services using WebSockets, gRPC, message queues, or comparable low-latency/event-driven patterns
  • Solid experience with Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Python, or comparable backend ecosystems, with ability to work across more than one when needed
  • Experience building and consuming REST/GraphQL APIs, including OAuth, API keys/tokens, and service accounts
  • Relational/NoSQL data modeling for session state, transcripts, and configuration data
  • CI/CD and automated integration/e2e testing experience
  • Ability to ship well-scoped tickets or specifications with minimal oversight and communicate blockers and timeline risks early
  • US citizenship and residence in the United States
  • Experience with speech/audio pipelines, including diarization, streaming ASR, or audio stream handling is a strong plus
  • Experience integrating third-party platform APIs, SDKs, or webhooks is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with localization/TMS workflows, including XLIFF, Translation Memory, and MT versus human translation pipelines is a strong plus
  • Experience with event-driven/pub-sub architectures such as Kafka or Pub/Sub is a strong plus
  • Frontend/React exposure is a strong plus
  • Microsoft Teams app or bot development experience is a bonus
  • Experience working on 0-to-1 products within an established company is a bonus
  • Interest or coursework in NLP/ML systems is a bonus
  • Production observability tooling experience, such as Datadog, is a bonus
