About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a workload of complex Long-Term Disability claims independently according to established procedures and guidelines
  • Conduct initial and ongoing interviews with claimants
  • Obtain and review medical records
  • Make timely and ethical claim determinations
  • Review and handle the most complex claims, including complex diagnoses or other claim factors requiring deeper investigation
  • Communicate with claimants, employers and medical professionals by phone and email to gather information about Long-Term Disability claims and state and federal benefits
  • Collaborate with case managers, nurse case managers, vocational case managers and consulting physicians
  • Review complex medical records and use tools and resources to determine approval durations and future action planning
  • Provide exceptional customer service and proactively recognize customer needs and opportunities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED or minimum Associate degree in lieu of required experience
  • 3-5 years of Long Term Disability claims experience, regardless of degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience with disability and/or absence management is a nice-to-have
  • Must reside outside of a commutable distance to an office location for the remote work arrangement
